CULTURE

Kia Aorangi Ake

"He mokopuna tāku iti, he tipuna tāku nui."

MANUKURA supports and empowers all students to learn and achieve personal excellence, regardless of their individual circumstances. MANUKURA acknowledges the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the bicultural foundations of Aotearoa New Zealand. All students have the opportunity to acquire knowledge of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.

Culture of Excellence

Excellence is a normalized expectation for students and staff within a Māori cultural framework.  Evidence of excellence is expressed on a daily basis in and out of the classroom. MANUKURA aims to empower students with the confidence to lead and contribute to their whānau, hapū and iwi.

Te Reo Māori

MANUKURA commits to the principals of the Treaty of Waitangi and are actively engaged in the maintenance and sustainability of Te Reo Māori as a recognised language of Aotearoa.

Te Reo Māori is compulsory in Year 9 and is taught at NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3. We also offer Te Reo Rangatira Levels 1, 2 and 3 as an extension programme. We are fortunate to attract a number of Kura Kaupapa Māori students and support them through quality staff.

We have a number of staff that are fluent in Te Reo Māori graduating from programmes such as Te Panekiretanga o te Reo Māori and Rūmaki Reo. This allows for dual delivery within all aspects of our kaupapa to help further support and lift our quality.  Subject specialist who are bilingual further advance our students capacity to be bilingual.
