At MANUKURA our high performance basketball programme aims to improve the skills of individual students and build on the performance of teams at regional and national competitions. With the popularity of basketball rapidly growing within New Zealand and throughout the world, since the establishment, we have continued to see an increase in participation and growth of student athletes choosing basketball as their priority sport. We are fortunate to have high caliber coaching staff to help foster future basketball aspirations. The MANUKURA basketball programme focus is on the development of fundamental basketball skills for all student athletes as well as a love of the game.
The MANUKURA Girls Basketball Programme continues to grow and show it's potential for being a competitive girl's programme on both regional and national stages. In 2017, the inaugural year for the senior girls basketball team, they placed 1st in the North Island Championship and 2nd in the NZSS A National Tournament (for schools under 600 students). The following year in 2018 they placed 1st again at the North Island Championship and 1st in the NZSS A School National Tournament. 2019 saw a new challenge with the senior girls programme taking a step up into the AA school competition (for schools over 600 students). They placed 3rd in the Zone 3 Regional Premiership and 7th in the NZSS AA National Tournament. As the girls programme continues to grow, we hope to increase our depth through our Junior Girls programme and continue to be a competitive programme within the AA school competition.
